To install a guest operating system manually
1StartWorkstation.
2Dooneofthefollowingsothatthevirtualmachinecanaccesstheinstallation
mediafortheguestoperatingsystem:
ForaCDorDVD,ifnecessary,configurethevirtualmachinetousethehost’s
CDROM/DVDdrive,andinserttheoperatingsystemmediainthedrive.
Insomehostconfigurations,thevirtualmachinecannotbootfromthe
installationCDROM.YoucanworkaroundthatproblembycreatinganISO
imagefilefromtheins
tallationCDROM.Usethevirtualmachinesettings
editor(chooseVM>Settings)toconnectthevirtualmachine’sCDdrivetothe
ISOimagefile,andpoweronthevirtualmachine.
ForanISOimage,connecttheCDROMdrivetoanISOimagefileofan
installationdisk.
TouseaPXEservertoinstalltheguestoperatingsystemov eranetwork
connection,youdonotneedtheoperatingsysteminstallationmedia.Whenyou
poweronthevirtualmachine,thevirtualmachi
nedetectsthePXEserver.
3ClickthePowerOnbutton.
4Followtheinstructionsprovidedbytheoperatingsystemvendor .
5IftheoperatingsystemspansseveralCDs,followthesestepswhenyouare
promptedtoinsertthesecondCD:
aDisconnectfromthecurrentimagebychoosingVM>RemovableDevices>
CDROM>D
isconnect.

cForUseISOimagefile,clickBrowse,andselecttheISOimageforthesecond
CD.
dIntheDeviceStatusarea,selecttheConnectedcheckboxandclickOK.

stem,clickOKorrespondtothepromptsothat
in
stallationcancontinue.
fRepeatthisprocessforadditionalCDs.
Aftertheguestoperatingsystemisinstalled,youcanusethestandardtoolswithinthe
operatingsystemtoconfigureitssettings.VMwarerecommendsthatyouinstall
VMwareToolsbeforeyouactivatethelic
ensefortheoperatingsystem.See“Installing
